Search Tips

Try these tips for finding the best matches from the blue Quick Search box on the home page:

Commuter Carpools

• The "carpool" radio button is the default selection.
• For the most complete results, choose the destination state and leave the text box empty.
• For targeted results, type your destination zip code in the text box, and it will return listings with a destination in a ten-mile radius of the zip code. This search will only return listings where a destination zip code is provided, which is about 95% of listings, and is not currently available for Canada. A future upgrade will allow search by origin as well as destination zip code.
• Alternatively, you can enter your origin or destination city, or another keyword, in the text box. All listing fields, including comments and member IDs, will be searched for the term.
• Many column headings are clickable. If you click, the listings will be ordered on that column, and secondarily in the default order.

Travel

• Select the "travel" radio button.
• For most travel searches, the most effective tool is the direction search. This allows you to find all listings traveling in the same direction. For example, if you're looking for a ride from Las Vegas to Denver, select NE (northeast). The search provides three compass points, so you see all trips going east, northeast, or north. There may be an offer going from Los Angeles to Chicago, which could overlap your travel and provide your ride.
• Offers are in the top section of the results page, and requests are below the offers.
• The directional search excludes some raw listings from Craigslist.org, which don't have destination state indicated. The origin is shown. You'll need to read the comments to determine if these listings are of interest. For these raw Craigslist.org listings, search for all travel listings; the raw listings will be at the bottom of the page. Because of the number of listings, this page will take a little while to load on slower connections.
• Listings from Craigslist.org are automatically removed after 7 days.
• Many column headings are clickable. If you click, the listings will be ordered on that column, and secondarily in the default order.

• Select the "local" radio button.
